This will be my 5th fabulous year working with ICAN (the Incredible Children's Art Network). I have taught art here in Santa Barbara at Arts Alive! Creativity Center, McKinley Elementary School, and Adelante Charter school. I grew up in Santa Barbara, and although I have traveled the world and lived in such amazing places as New Mexico, Ecuador and Australia, I love being here in our wonderful town! I have a BA in Art and Psychology as well as an MA in Art Education and a K-12 visual art teaching credential. I am extremely passionate about the arts, and so happy to be teaching art at Harding University Partnership School! While I am usually making and teaching art, in my spare time you will find me dancing and traveling!

I am a first generation Mexican-Peruvian American. I was born and raised in the East Bay area of California. I received my bachelor degree at the University of Oregon, where I worked in the early child development center. My work experience ranges from working as a behavior therapist in an early intervention preschool, to conducting research in education and policy reform. Currently I am pursuing my doctorate in school psychology at the University of California at Santa Barbara in Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology program. I love working with families in educational and therapeutic settings, and I look forward to working with the students and their families at Harding.

It is very exciting to be a part of the enrichment team this year for the IB program at Harding University Partnership School! I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 1995 with a degree in Communications and received both my multiple-subject credential and single-subject English credential from Chapman University in May 2011. I am just as passionate about learning new concepts as I am about sharing those ideas with my students. My plan for this year is to provide a fun, interactive, exciting learning environment in the computer lab in which each and every Harding student can succeed. When not at school I enjoy swimming laps, going to yoga class, photography and traveling; but most of all, I love to read!

As a very new member of the Harding staff, I am looking forward to becoming part of the everyday discoveries and interactions on campus. I have a love for learning, cooking, dancing, hiking, miniature things, creating things, and of course working with kids. I first
came to Santa Barbara as a student at UCSB where I studied both art and education, two very important things in my life. I am happy to be at Harding and thrilled to participate in
many learning adventures.

I have eight years of practice in various teaching assignments including: special day class, resource, and collaborative instruction. This experience along with my coursework at California State University Northridge has prepared me to work with multi-disciplinary teams to promote the success of students at an individual level. I believe that students thrive in a positive atmosphere of clear expectations and timely, specific feedback. My goal is for students to believe in themselves and their own abilities. After graduating with my B.S. in Cognitive Sciences from UCI in 2006 and working at the Newport-Mesa Unified School District as an ABA aide and independence facilitator, I enrolled and earned my Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. I currently hold a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential and is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. Having completed a dual internship in School Psychology at the Laguna Beach and Newport-Mesa Unified School Districts, Mr. Shahroozi is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in School Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
