Claire Anderson

My name is Claire Anderson and I am very excited to be returning to Harding University Partnership School in my second year of teaching in the State Preschool Program. I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and feel so fortunate to be living and working in such a beautiful community. I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Child Development with a minor in Psychology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 2006. I then moved up to the bay area where I obtained my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from Cal State East Bay. I am happy to have found my passion working with children and am excited to be apart of the Harding Hawks team!

I am originally from Corpus Christi, Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University. I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with Early Childhood Specialization and earned my Texas Teacher Certificate. After teaching in a public primary school for five years in Texas, I took a year off to study and travel in Mexico. I stayed an additional three years to teach kindergarten at the Colegio Americano in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco. After returning to the United States I relocated to Santa Barbara where I met my husband, Michael, a firefighter, and attended the UCSB Extension Program to earn my California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. Now in my tenth year of teaching in Santa Barbara schools I am looking forward to working together with the Harding University Partnership School staff and families as our students grow and learn about their world.

Esther Ortega
Esther Ortega

Hi my name is Esther Ortega and I am very excited to continue with the Harding University Partnership Preschool team. I began my career in early childhood development in 1997 at Kinko’s Early Learning Center (a lab school). I did my student teaching, for three years, at Kinko’s and then worked there for two years. I received a professional certificate in early childhood development from Santa Barbara City College in 2000. In 2002, I moved to Santa Maria, and while working for the YMCA’s Stepping Stones Preschool, I obtained my credential from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In 2008 I moved back to Santa Barbara and began working with Los Niños Head Start Preschool. At Los Niños, I learned about Head Start procedures and policies. Children are full of happiness; everyday is different and their curiosity fascinates fills me with joy. My career gives me the opportunity to laugh, play and teach children the fundamentals they need to succeed in kindergarten. I have been married to my husband Max for 16 years and we have 3 children: Max 15, Kiara 12, and Raymond 9. We enjoy cooking together and taking short trips whenever we can. I look forward to working our wonderful children, their families and Harding staff.

I have been with SBSD for 11 years, teaching in the Child Development Program. I have a rich background in early childhood education and it truly is my passion in life! I started my preschool journey at Monroe and continued at the Academy and Roosevelt. I was invited to join the Child Development administrative team in 2003 as the head teacher for State Preschool where I spent the next 6 years, guiding and supporting preschool teachers, children and families, all the while continuing to grow and learn too! Last fall (with budget cuts) I found myself back in the classroom teaching preschool at McKinley and felt "right at home" being with little ones again! Prior to joining SBSD, I was a teacher at Cottage Hospital's Employee Children’s Center. I helped to open and start up the preschool (in 1981) , where I spent 10 years and moved over to start up the Infant & Toddler program where I spent the next 8 years.
