Rachel Gonzales - Family Advocate I was born and raised in Santa Maria until the age of 19. I moved to Santa Barbara in 1971 with much excitement of attending Santa Barbara Beauty College. Since I desired to become a great hairstylist, I studied hard and soon found out that not only could I provide hair services, but also learn about the human mind and how people learn to cope and adjust to their every day challenges. I worked at Devereux School for 5 years in the hairstylist apprentice program while studding Cosmetology. I have been a Family Advocate for the last 13 months, and since July 1 have become a part of Harding University Partnership School as a family advocate. My greatest joy and passion is to watch a family realize that they can become empowered to help and care for their families, and most important that parents are foremost the most important teacher in their child’s life.

There are many resources in the community that can aid families, such as rental assistance, free food and clothing, health insurance, counseling services, car seats, toys, parenting classes, low cost filling of paper work (divorce, custody, etc), and much more!
