I was born and raised in Seal Beach, California. I then moved to San Luis Obispo and attended undergrad at Cal Poly. I received my bachelors in Child Development and a minor in Psychology. During that time, I developed a deep love for children. I received my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential as well as a Masters in Education at UCSB. I completed my student teaching at Harding. My first year of teaching I taught fourth grade at a private school in Santa Barbara, which was a wonderful experience. I am excited to teach sixth grade at Harding, and continue to pour out my love for teaching and students throughout the year.

I settled in Santa Barbara in 1996. I have worked with children in a school setting, as well as volunteered by providing art enrichment within the classroom, for the past seventeen years. I am the first of my family to go to college. I earned my AA degree in liberal studies with an emphasis in art at SBCC and then transferred to California State University of Northridge. While at CSUN I earned a BA in liberal studies with a concentration in the arts and later returned to earn my Teaching Credential. I am passionate about teaching, family, art, photography and traveling. I have been lucky enough to travel and enjoy finding opportunities to open up the world to my students.

It has been a full October. Students went on a hike up Hot Springs Trail to learn about plate tectonics and our local geologic formations. Our next hike will take us through Rocky Nook Park and the Museum of Natural History where we will focus on erosion, debris flows, and geomorphology. Students began a five-week program presented by Opera of Santa Barbara that includes weekly visits from opera singers, learning an operetta, performing the operetta here at Harding and a visit to the performance of The Pirates of Penzannce. We are in the midst of orally presenting our Early Human and Culture projects. Finally, a group of about 30 students just began an after school enrichment writing class with Mrs. Aikens-Ávila. One last bit of news is that the dates for Science Camp have been changed to December 8-11.
